AMERICA'S YOUNG HEROES CONTEST AND PROGRAM

Ms.Hirschhorn's America's Young Heroes contest and educational resources were created to:

  • Pay tribute to young heroes who demonstrate respect for diversity (religious, racial, ethnic, mental, emotional, physical, socio-economic or academic); compassion/caring; fortitude; positive attitude; gratitude; citizenship/patriotism; wisdom
  • Honor their Self-Expression & Feelings in their essays, poetry, art (Literacy)
  • Help students identify their talents, skills, hobbies, interests, passions, dreams, needs and unique heroic attributes through the Hero Activities, Pre/Post Questions
  • Help students focus on their Strength rather than fear in order to resolve their challenges at home, school or community
  • Celebrate their Transformation & Triumphs over Adversity
  • Invite students to participate in the annual Celebration of America's Young Heroes essay, poetry, art, music and film contest

Book I (Learn About Yourself, Learn the lessons of the Civil War) and Book III (Teens Are Heroes, Too! Challenges, Choices and Character) pay tribute to historical and contemporary young heroes. Books I, II, III include award-winning entries from past contests. Teens Are Heroes, Too! offers teachers and parents a complete lesson plan as well as an invitation to all youngsters to submit entries.
